International Agreement and Membership of "Yara: Iranian Centre for the Advancement of Philosophy for Children and Youth (ICAPCY)", as a subset of the “Rooyesh Digar Cultural and Artistic Institute” (Peydaayesh):
  1. Agreement on the translation of Matthew Lipman's story and guide books, with the IAPC Institute of Montclair University since 2018
  2. The only Iranian institution member of the International Council of Philosophy for Children ICPIC since 2017

Yara goals

“Yara: Iranian Centre for the Advancement of Philosophy for Children and Youth in Iran" pursues the following goals:

  1. Translating and publishing the IAPC curriculum؛ Institute of Montclair University, USA (an institution established by the founder of this program, Matthew Lipman) ؛Among the achievements in this field is achieving the privilege of publishing the translations of the IAPC Institute's works in Iran from Professor Maughn Gregory through an official agreement between this center and the IAPC Institute.
  2. Organizing and fulfilment didactic workshops for training schoolteachers and kids mentors as facilitator of this program (Community of Philosophical Inquiry: CPI).
  3. Introducing and promoting CPI in schools and other educational centers.
  4. Collecting resources, including research and educational articles and books, for using by facilitators of this program.

Translations

  • The institute has a contract with the IAPC Institute of Montclair University to translate Matthew Lipman's storybooks and guides since 2018.
  • The first storybook and it’s guidebook written by Matthew Lipman, "Harry Stottlemeier's Discovery," was translated and edited by this center in 2014 and published in collaboration with KARGADAN Publish.
  • The second book "Instructional Manual to Accompany Pixie" by Matthew Lipman and Ann Margaret Sharp is in the process of being edited.

Attending international meetings

  • In the recent pre-gathering of the International Council of Philosophical Inquiry with Children (ICPIC), Dr. Mohammad Reza Vaez Shahrestani had hold a workshop focusing on philosophical inquiry for the pioneers, researchers, facilitators and activists of the philosophy for children program. This workshop has held "in person" at the University of Naples Federico II in Naples, Italy and in English.
  • In the 2022 meeting of this council, which was held in Japan and coincided with the Corona epidemic period, a workshop entitled "Creative methods in the philosophical community of inquiry with noisy and hyperactive students" was held online by Dr. Vaez.

  • Acceptance of Yara Book House’s approach to presentation and introduction at the 39th Children’s Literature Congress, International Book Board on Books for Young People (IBBY) in Trieste, Italy, 2024.
  • The International Board on Books for Young People (IBBY) is an institution that awards the Hans Christian Andersen Prize (Nobel Prize for Children’s Literature) every two years to a collection of works by an author and an illustrator for a lifetime of professional activity in the field of children’s literature.
  • The 39th International IBBY Congress was held in Trieste, Italy from August 30 to September 1, 2024. The main slogan and theme of this Congress is “Join the Revolution! Give Good Books to All Children”.
